ALKALI

METHOD

Bring us the need.
Not the solution.

You don’t need to know whether you need an artwork, installation, activation, object or experience.

Start with what you want to accomplish.

The Alkali Method is a structured, art-led process for turning a business need, story or opportunity into an original creative direction — and ultimately, something people can experience.

Most corporate creative work begins by choosing the thing: a campaign, an event, a gift, an installation.

We begin somewhere else.

Alkali takes a defined business need and gives it the freedom of artistic enquiry. Instead of designing toward a predetermined solution, we explore what the story, material, place, data, audience or context might reveal.

The result still has a job to do. The artistic output isn’t predetermined by it.

Creative Direction

From business objective to artistic opportunity.

The first stage of the Alkali Method is a dedicated creative engagement.

Together, we work through your objective, audience, context, story and ambitions. Alkali then takes that thinking into the studio to research, interpret and develop an artistic direction specifically for your organization.

The result isn’t a brainstorm or a list of ideas.

It’s a considered artistic response to the opportunity — and a clear direction for what it could become.

DISCOVER

Find the question worth exploring.

Every project begins with conversation.

What are you trying to accomplish? Who needs to engage with it? What should they feel, understand, remember or do? What stories, places, values or materials matter?

We look beyond the initial request to understand the opportunity underneath it.

Sometimes the thing you first imagined is exactly right.

Sometimes there’s a much more interesting answer.

INTERPRET

Look at the opportunity through an artist’s lens.

This is where the business brief enters the studio.

Research, material exploration, storytelling, data, place, sustainability, participation and perception can all become part of the enquiry.

There is no predetermined formula.

The source material changes with every project because the artistic response should belong specifically to the organization, audience and opportunity behind it.

IMAGINE

Give the idea a form.

Research becomes creative direction.

Alkali develops the artistic concept and considers how people might encounter it: its materials, scale, interaction, story and potential forms.

The outcome could be an artwork.

An installation.

A participatory experience.

A collection of objects.

Or something we haven’t made before.

At the end of this stage, we return with a creative direction and proposal for bringing the idea into the world.

Creative Realization

From idea to experience.

Once the direction is established, we determine what it will take to make it real.

Depending on the project, Alkali may work with fabricators, artists, makers, engineers, production partners or other specialists — assembling the right team around the idea rather than forcing the idea into an existing production model.

MAKE

Build it properly.

Concept development moves into materials, testing, prototyping, fabrication and production.

Alkali remains the creative lead throughout, protecting the original idea while working through the practical realities of budget, site, durability, production, installation and delivery.

The process remains experimental, but the execution isn’t left to chance.

ACTIVATE

Put the work to work.

An artwork changes a space.

An installation creates an encounter.

An activation invites participation.

An object travels home with someone.

Whatever form the project takes, this stage is about what happens when the work meets its audience.

Because the goal isn’t simply to make something.

It’s to create something that does something.

Then what happens next?

We look at what the work created.

Did people participate? Did it start conversations? Did it change how a story was understood? Did an object become meaningful? Did people behave differently in a space?

Where useful, Alkali can help capture those outcomes and identify how the idea might evolve — into another experience, another object, another environment or an ongoing creative platform.

One project can be the beginning of a much larger story.

Start with the question.

You might have a sustainability story that isn’t connecting.

A corporate space that needs meaning.

An event where you want people participating instead of simply attending.

A client relationship you want to recognize differently.

A complex idea you want people to actually care about.

Or simply the sense that art could do something here — you’re just not sure what yet.

That’s exactly where we start.

Bring us the objective. We’ll explore what it could become.
